City of Gilbert Centennial Events - July 5th, 2008

Medallion Hunt begins ~ Fourth Clue will be POSTED at City Hall and Gilbert Public Library at 8:00 a.m., printed in the Mesabi Daily News & announced on WEVE. Brush up on your "Gilbert" history to win $2008.00!!! Sponsored by RLK Inc. (Must be registered with a numbered button to be eligible!)

Historical Open House at Community Center 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Historical Exhibits in Dining Room to tour at leisure. Exhibits by the Iron Range Historical Society, American Legion, Robert Kivela, Gilbert residents and 1951 Basketball Champions books by Tom Phillipich.

Teen Center Open House (old Legion Room) at Community Center 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Gilbert School Tour 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with Myron Fahey

Flea Market 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. ~ upper Ballfield along New Jersey Avenue East. Contact Judy Omersa at 741-7299 with questions.

8.8k Run/Walk Around Lake Ore-Be-Gone beginning at 8:00 a.m. registration at the Skenzich Arena (more info to follow)

Car Show and Auto Parts Swap at Gilbert Recreation Complex – Registration 9:30 a.m., Auto Swap 10 a.m., Awards Ceremony 2 p.m. Contact Bill at 741-2653 or Denny at 744-2413 for more info.

OHV Mud Run – 12 noon at the Gilbert OHV Park sponsored by North Country Mud Racing Association and Northern Minnesota Jeepers

Heritage Fashion Show 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Community Center Auditorium. "Bits and Pieces" a double barbershop quartet, to provide music. Sponsored in part by the First National Bank of Gilbert. Contact Judy Omersa for tickets at 741-7299.

Come one Come all to the greatest show on Earth!!! – Liebling Bros Circus performing at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at 200 Ohio Avenue West (the old shirt factory lot across from the Gilbert High School).

Northern Lights Music Festival will present a concert at the Gilbert Jr. High Auditorium 3 p.m. The program will include Bach Unaccompanied Sonata for Cello Paganini Caprice Smentana String Quartet Mendelssohn Octet.

Lawn Mower Races 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. lot across from Delta Dental on South Broadway. Registration will be day of the races.

“Iron Ranger” Dinner 4 - 7 p.m. Downstairs of St. Joseph's Catholic Church sponsored by the Ladies of St. Joseph’s. Menu: Porketta & Sloppy Joe Sandwiches, Cheesy Potatoes, Funeral Cabbage, Chips, Death by Chocolate dessert Cost is $6-$7/person.

Street Dance on South Broadway 8 p.m. – 12 midnight featuring music by "Pyschobabble" (Twin Cities Band) sponsored by Devo's Sand Bar, Jim's Seldom Inn and Amy's Bar
