2008 Gilbert Public Library Director’s essay contest:“What will Minnesota be like in 150 years?”

The 2008 Gilbert Public Library Director’s essay contest:“What will Minnesota be like in 150 years?”(in 51 words or less)

“Boy, it was so hard to pick an essay winner this year!” said Amy Hay,Gilbert Library Director. “We had lots of interesting essays in thecontest. There were some common themes, such as flying cars and robots. Iwonder if those writers were influenced by images from the movies? Someessays were a little sad, with not much hope for the future. Others werevery optimistic, with an environmental theme. The best essays were wellwritten with a unique point of view. All of the staff of the GilbertLibrary read all of the essays, and because the authors’ names were writtenon the backs of the entries we had no idea who wrote which essay until thefinal decision was made. Ultimately, we picked Robin Kutsi’s essay becauseit was very realistic and different from any of the others.”

The Winner:

I think in 2158 Minnesota will have a larger population. There will be lessfarms with more homes being built in their place. There will be energyproduction made from reusable sources like plants. I also think LakeSuperior will be smaller with the water level dropping yearly. ~Robin Kutsi

Robin is in Mrs. Oates 5th grade class at Nelle Shean Elementary. She isthe daughter of Rob and Sheila Kutsi.
